My Students
Students in our 2nd grade classes are a fun group of energetic learners. Many of them come from families who have been part of our community for many generations. Our school is a tight-knit community with students often playing with siblings and cousins from another grade level on the playground.
My students are excited to learn and participate in the classroom!
It's common to find students giving each other book recommendations and helping each other find a specific book series in our classroom library.
My Project
Students have already fallen in love Otis the Tractor in Loren Long's delightful books. They just can't get enough!
Research shows that reading through a book series is highly beneficial not only for reading enjoyment, but comprehension as well. Students benefit greatly by being able to read these books with familiar characters whom they love.
In addition to Otis, we have chosen an few other series to add to our library including Jamaica and Ladybug Girl. Ladybug Girl is lighthearted and joyful, while Jamaica tends to ponder deeper topics like honesty and friendship through thick an thin.
Overall, students not only fall in love with the characters in these books, but they learn tons of good life lessons along the way.
