Help me give my students the gift of a book for winter break. This school year has been tough and I'd love to send them home with a brand new book to read over break.
We are a fourth-year STEM school in northern Utah. We don't sit and teach from a textbook because we want students to have authentic, real-world experiences. Most of our students are here because the traditional model of school didn't reach their needs.
At this school, they have rekindled a desire to learn as we take them out into our community to make connections with our world or to serve our neighbors.
Students also bring in their personal interests so we can spend time diving deeper into what they love and use it as a way to teach our state standards. This school has been the highlight of my career as I facilitate my students' learning environment to discover new passions and master skills.
My Project
This year has been tough with hybrid schedules, social distancing, and so much more. My students have been rock stars throughout this whole thing. They're managing their schedules, collaborating during discussions, and completing all of their assignments.
Please help me send each student home on winter break with a new book that they chose.
I know that these new books will help as boredom busters over winter break but they will also spark some joy in what has already been a tough school year. My students love reading new books and this will be a huge surprise. Students have voted for their favorite book so they've all chosen books on this list and they think the books are for our classroom library.
