My Students

Do you remember what is was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? My students are obsessed with the Hunger Games trilogy. They are devouring the story.

One of my goals for my students is to develop a love for reading.

When they first arrive in my class, very few consider themselves readers. The majority of them don't have books at home. Almost all of them have never been inside a bookstore! Most of them have never been introduced to all the great literature that is available.

My Project

Great literature helps develop the love of reading. The Hunger Games is a series of books that the students do not want to put down. They are fighting over who can read my one copy. You can look up any statistic and it will say that kids need to read more! The more they read, the more successful they will be.

"Mrs. D, can't we just read one more chapter?" That is the question I get when my students read great literature.

(Yes, it is music to my ears) My goal is to make life long learners and developing a passion for reading is one way to realize that goal. My students are begging to read this book!
