I teach 3-5 Communication Behavioral classroom that includes 10 wonderfully bright and inspiring students. Many of our students push out into the general education setting with the support of a staff member and receive small group instruction for areas of need (such as academics, social-emotional skills, etc.) for most of the day. As of this year, almost all of my students are participating in specials (PE, Music, Library) with their general education classes.
Communication Behavioral: a classroom supports students who have language delays which create behaviors that make it difficult for them to be successful in a general education classroom without supports.
While there are challenging days I love my job, my students, and our team.
We have recently created a classroom library that is more accessible for our students. This means that the books are within students' reach at all times. Our library has grown slowly from a few books in bins to selves and selves of reading fun!
In any classroom library, the most important thing to have is verity!
While our classroom library has its basics ( Dr. Seuss, Piggie and Elephant, etc.) we are looking to expand. In the list above are some early literacy books as well as some high-interest graphic novels. We carefully selected books that are the same interests of our students and we are very excited to add them!
