Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are between the ages of 3-5 years old. They are sweet, loving, and eager to learn new foundation concepts. For many of my students, my classroom is their first time being away from home and in a structured classroom setting. All of my students have special needs and receive specially designed instruction, but in reality this is not what defines them, they have so much potential. I enjoy being able to see their growth each year from start to finish.
My Project
The variety of books will provide my students with opportunities to improve speech and their cognitive skills. Reading during our large group times help them increase memory, curiosity and motivation. When we start reading books to them at a young age, they start building a positive attitude towards items of print. Furthermore, they begin to recognize the parts of the book and what words in text look like. In addition, they learn to increase attention span, practice listening, and enhance concentration.
I selected books of different themes, including pumpkins, community helpers, seasons, friendship, all about me, and many more.
The books will also be placed in the book center after they are read during large group time, so that the students can explore them on their own time.
