Not only do my kids love to be read to, but they love the sense of ownership when following along in their own book, and being able to read aloud themselves.
My kids enjoy reading ALL genres and enjoy learning about ALL subjects. They love to be heard and to share their thoughts and opinions about whatever it is that we are reading in class. Books are important in helping them find that voice!
My kids are creative, curious, smart and want to be inspired, entertained and to learn. Books are the key to make that happen!
My Project
This whole project is about books, books and more books! Having whole class sets of books, as well as small group sets of books, is important! While students love to be read to, following along in their own book during a read aloud can help to develop and enhance their reading fluency skills.
In order to read fluently, students must first hear and understand what fluent reading sounds like.
A powerful way to help students is to read aloud to them, consistently and with great expression.
Reading a magical book like "The Tale of Despereaux" as a class, seeing the words in print and hearing the words brought to life, is a meaningful experience! Whether my kids are following along while I'm reading, or reading in a small group with peers, the goal is to put books into their hands to help open their minds.
