Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experience.
My students are creative, clever, and very spontaneous.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical.” From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and their growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I certainly can control their experiences during the school day. I am hoping to inspire our earliest learners to continue on a path toward academic excellence.
My Project
Help me give my students books to engage in learning at home. These books will be used by me, their teacher, to read to my class (right now this will take place over whole group, online learning). Students will use the books to incorporate crafts, journaling and other at home learning activities.
These books include various seasonal and subject materials that will be used throughout the year to engage students in learning.
Young children learn best when reading a relevant story. This exposes them to enriching vocabulary and the various elements or reading that they learn throughout the school year. This project will help my students attain these skills by being read to.
