My Students
My classroom culture is built on safety, curiosity, creativity, and the power of believing in yourself. Each year, I have the opportunity to turn 18 second-graders into authors, illustrators, debate leaders, mathematicians, scientists, editors, and, most importantly, good humans. These 18 students come to me not only looking for their new reading and writing teacher but they also come to me with many different needs, dreams, skills, and backgrounds.
My goal as a teacher is to foster my students into lifelong learners who understand that making mistakes is a part of growing.
My Project
To supplement our regular curriculum, these books will be paired with the Rooted in Reading curriculum that focuses on one read aloud each week so that students can deepen their understanding, focus on the structure of the story, and use the different reading strategies and skills that we match with the story.
Each story is designed to target multiple ELA standards.
As the teacher, I will use these books to model fluency, expression, thinking out loud, and understanding a text. This ensures that my students take all of those best practices and put them into place when they are reading independently.
