Help me give my students a complete classroom library! We need books on students' individual reading levels so that every student can find their love for reading and grow their reading abilities.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am wildly excited to be teaching second grade English Language Arts (ELA) this coming year. What makes this extra special is that I know most of the rising second graders from working with them in first grade. These students are kind, hard-working, goofy, fun, and many are avid readers.
My students deserve a well-stocked classroom library, with books that meet their individual reading levels, to help them grow.
Second graders' reading levels and reading interests are all over the map. A fully-stocked classroom library is essential for ensuring every student is able to find reading materials that they enjoy.
The students in my classes are diverse. Approximately one third of my students are Black/African American, one third are white, and one third are Hispanic/Latino. Around 30% of students speak Spanish as their first language. Thus, the need for books that represent all of my students is incredibly important.
My Project
My second graders are coming into my classroom with a wide variety of interests, reading levels, and feelings about reading. In order to ensure that all my students have access to quality reading materials, I need books for my students on a wide variety of reading levels. This allows all my students to find books they can read independently that are at that "just right" level for them.
I want my classroom library to be a place where students can gain confidence in their reading!
By ensuring every student has access to books they are able to read, students will be able to read independently with books that meet their interests.
