My Students
Together, my fifth-grade students are one class community even though individually everyone has their own set of needs. My 10-year-olds, come from a wide variety of economic and cultural backgrounds, with the majority speaking languages other than English at home. Their home lives are diverse, but they all have the same expectations when they come to school every day: To be challenged and engaged.
Working together, we can help these minds meet and exceed society's, and our school's, high expectations.
My Project
Reading is a precious thing that I want to encourage in my students. The only way to do this is to give them access to a variety of literature that suits their interests. I can not keep my library full of the donated books I received from a retiring teacher; those books just don't have the draw that new literature has. We need current titles!
My kids are continuously begging for more reading time and I think that they deserve new books. With the help of these donations, I can encourage not only independent reading but also start some new book clubs and conversations about what we read.
