Help me give my students books that are at their reading level. We are looking for book sets to be shared across the entire Kindergarten Team to use in our small reading groups that are developmentally appropriate.
I teach in one of the largest school districts in the country at a low income/high performing elementary school. My students are a mix of special needs and general education Kindergarten students.
My students are little sponges that are ready to learn and grow!
Many students come to Kindergarten without basic skills and need a lot of assistance in basic early childhood skills such as social skills, book handling, crayon and pencil skills, and fine motor development. They are awesome little people that deserve the very best!
As our Kindergarteners master basic early literacy skills, they crave opportunities to practice! These sets of books would allow our team to meet with our small reading groups to practice blending words, read high-frequency words in context, and practice fluency.
While we have leveled readers that go with our reading program, we would love to have books by famous authors to show that there is more out there than what they're seeing in isolation.
We know as teachers that the more opportunity that these kids have to read, the more likely they are able to master those important Kindergarten foundational skills.
