Help me give my students books, and lots of them! A love of reading helps foster learning in every subject. We need Fish in a Tree, Because of Mr. Terupt, and more.
My students are an incredibly sweet bunch of kids. They are hard workers, always striving to do their best.
Each one of my kids is constantly looking to learn and do more.
I want to be able to provide them with whole class sets and small group sets of trade books. Time and time again, I have seen reading books as a class that are above the students' reading levels improve fluency, comprehension, and the desire to read. Whole class books benefit every child in the classroom, but they really help the struggling readers that otherwise would not be able to understand the reading material. Small group sets of books allow students the chance to really dig into a book, bounce ideas off of each other, and improve their metacognition. There is nothing I love more than seeing my students eager to read.
My Project
The books I am requesting will be used daily. I do both read alouds with whole class books and reading groups with small group books every single school day. Weekly I do comprehension and character building lessons. I have requested books that are on their level (for small group reading), above their level (for whole group reading), and books that are below their level (for teaching comprehension strategies and character building skills.) I believe the books I am requesting will be extremely intriguing to my students. I know they will be excited to dig into each book. Authentic trade books help students flourish in reading!
I am requesting Fish in a Tree and Because of Mr. Terupt for whole class books.
I am requesting Al Capone Does My Shirts and The Honest Truth for small group books. I am requesting Beautiful Oops, The Red Bicycle, After the Fall (How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again), Emmanuel's Dream, One Green Apple, Freedom Song, Rain School, Creature Features, I Want My Hat Back, Today I’m a Monster, A Letter to My Teacher, The Bad Seed, The Stranger, Snow Wings, The Adventures of Beekle, The Whispering Town, Gregor the Overlander books 2 and 3, No Talking, The False Prince book 1, There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom, First Day Jitters, Tap Tap Boom Boom, The Liberation of Gabriel King, and My Side of the Mountain.
