My students need Katie Woo series books to cultivate their love of reading. There are even reference books for different styles of writing featuring the beloved character, Katie Woo!
We are a classroom ready to embrace a new school year! My goal this year is to make ALL children fall in love with reading. As enthusiasm grows, I'd love to see our classroom library do the same!
Last year I introduced my students to the Katie Woo series, but Scholastic doesn't carry them, nor does our school library.
I want my class to have a set of these beloved stories for independent reading! They are fun, light-hearted reading that are not overwhelming. They are perfect for beginning readers growing their confidence with chapter books.
I've selected 43 high interest books that will help foster their love of reading and strengthen their literacy skills!
My Project
My students LOVED the Katie Woo series! I will use titles like "Katie Woo Tries Something New" and "Pedro for President" as read alouds and mentor texts to teach the skills vital to growing reading and the second grade curriculum.
I will use the reference titles such as "What Do You Think Katie: Writing an Opinion Piece With Katie Woo" to teach the different genres of writing.
Using the familiar character, Katie Woo, students will learn from her mistakes and grow alongside her as writers. There is a Katie Woo reference book for each style of writing: narrative, poetry, opinion, and information! I've also included Spanish titles to reach my English Language Learners.
