This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are an amazing group of first graders! They come from an urban, inner city environment where the time they spend at school is the best seven hours of their day! They are always eager to learn and look at everyday in the classroom as a new adventure.
Do you remember a time when you couldn't wait to go home and tell someone about what you learned in school that day?
This is how my students feel everyday about learning! They are the most deserving students!
My Project
My first grade students do not have a lot of opportunities to venture into the wide world around them. I would love to give them to opportunity to read about things that will interest them, maybe even calm some fears!
Living in an urban area makes life very limited for my little ones.
Many times, they fear the unknown things we all take for granted, such as community helpers. I want my students to enrich their lives not only through what they are reading, but also about what they are talking about at home. These books and bags will give my students something to talk about with others! Most of my students don't go home to a family who is eager to read to them or with them. This is why the Tag system would be an amazing home motivator for families to continue the learning we are doing in school when they get home!
Growing up without a lot of book at home already puts my students behind those in suburban areas. These nonfiction books and home motivation kit will help to bridge that gap! Please consider donating to my project to bring literacy to my students in the classroom as well as at home so my students can continue to grow!
