My Students
The district that I teach in is a high needs, high poverty district. I teach in a inclusion classroom with both regular and special education students. The students range from a Kindergarten to almost 4th grade reading levels. The students that I teach do not get much support at home, and need all the support and resources in the classroom as possible.
"No excuses mentality means that even if you believe it should be a students' job to be engaged, you except that it is your job to engage them"
My Project
I want to help my students become life-long readers! The best way to do this is by having books that are easily accessible to them that are age appropriate, challenging, and engaging! Multiple copies of texts help me to teach the same text to a group of students at the same time.
Guided reading gives me the opportunity to pull small groups of students who have similar skills to be able to give them individualized targeted instruction.
These books will be a great addition to small group reading, as they will keep my students engaged. The books will help with building comprehension skills, reading fluency, and accuracy, practice word patterns, and vocabulary skills.
