My Students
My students are mostly 8th grade students who, often times, are not overly interested in reading (surprise, surprise). They are eager to learn, however, they struggle to find books that are interesting for them. I no longer wish to hear the phrase "reading is boring" in my classroom. My students and I ask for you help in providing them updated, high-interest, reading material for our classroom library. Of all the students at my school, more than 50% come from low-income areas and many do not have access to reading materials at home.
My Project
I am an ELA teacher who is in DESPERATE need of some new books for my classroom library. As a teacher, instead of paying out of pocket, I decided I would see if I can get some funding for some new high-interest books for my students. We often do novel studies in my class and I want to be able to give the students better options for group reading, essays, and projects. Since many of my students come from low-income families they do not have access to reading materials at home. These books would be used for read-aloud's, silent reading, group reading and would be used towards reading counts.
