My students need high interest books on their reading level. Books such as "Hilo" series and "Pippi Longstocking" will engage struggling readers in book clubs.
My students are an amazing bunch. They are a diverse group of learners who are excited about reading, community, and creativity. Most of them have been in school together since Kindergarten, and our school community has fostered their friendships and personal connections.
Our neighborhood school is a collaborative community of active thinkers who are preparing leaders of the 21st century.
Every student is encouraged to achieve high academic standards, meet and exceed their own personal goals and realize social success. Our students sustain a sense of curiosity that is met by incorporating the community into our school to provide authentic learning experiences. We share a belief that each member of the community brings a unique set of talents and skills and this belief is celebrated by providing all children the opportunity to excel by applying best practices in teaching, skillful planning, and providing a supportive and challenging inquiry based curriculum. Our students will emerge from our school active learners and positive members of the community.
My Project
My students read in book clubs throughout the year. Having the opportunity to not only read together, but to discuss together, encourages deeper comprehension and motivation.
Struggling readers often have difficulty finding and completing books-so supplying them with a steady stream will go a long way to increasing stamina and motivation.
Students will use these book sets throughout the year while in book clubs. They will read together, write together, and talk together.
These books are high interest and on my students' level. Having access to a wide variety of book sets will open up doors for my students and allow them to participate and stay motivated.
