Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a community school that provides outreach to students and their families in a variety of ways.

We serve a community of students and their families who are predominantly English Learners.

With more than 85% of our students designated as socioeconomically disadvantaged, having a learning environment that is welcoming, supportive, and rich in literature is essential.

My goal is to expand my classroom library by purchasing new books. In the midst of this pandemic, I am realizing that my classroom book bins are in dire need of being replenished. With half my class often learning from home in quarantine and the other half present in class, I would love to purchase more books in order to have plenty to send home to students without depleting my book bins for the in-person kiddos.

My students are hardworking, inquisitive, and ambitious. Second grade is a pivotal year for exposure to written text for all readers and having access to a wide selection of books is invaluable!

My Project

Our classroom library is a warm, welcoming space where students will always find the perfect book regardless of interests or reading level.

By adding new books, I will be able to offer book selections that are enticing and up to date.

I will also be able to send more books home with students having to stay home during this pandemic. The at-home students deserve access to the same quality books that my in-person students are reading and I am eager to expand my classroom library to ensure that this is happening.

All books have been selected with students in mind and will benefit all my students as they continue to develop their reading skills both at home and in class. Thank you!
