This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My scholars are very energetic, optimistic, and eager readers, with grit that is sure to take them on many flights of fancy as they travel from my room to and through college.
My scholars love to read novels and create stories of their own.
Some of them even make their own little comic books. It brightens my day to see their zest for learning and to see them exploring the possibilities beyond the walls of our classroom. They are truly on the road to becoming lifelong learners and productive citizens in their communities.
My Project
My students need more books for our class library. The goal of this project is to procure additional new and engaging literature for my class. Baseline testing has shown that we could use the most help in improving our comprehension of literature, however, kids will not read what they are not interested in, and let's face it: the books in most of our classrooms are old and out of date. Therefore, with input from my students, I have developed a list that will meet these interests and hopefully expand their appetites for genres they might not have realized they would even like.
Nothing beats having a real, physical book in your hands, sitting on a stole, and wandering off to some faraway land during silent reading, in fact, it's one of my fondest elementary school memories.
My list is varied and at times eclectic. It meets the needs of gifted students as well as struggling readers.
