I have a classroom full of sweet little learners who are energetic to learn. They are kind and truly enjoy the experiences they get at school. These students put a smile in my heart and make me want to be the very best teacher I can be for them.
I teach in a rural Title I school in West Virginia where 100% of students receive a free breakfast and lunch each day.
The students often come from tough situations but they don't let that stop them from learning and making the most out of each day.
My budding readers love to choose their own books, but currently they are limited to around 20 titles to choose from due to lack of storage space. They thoroughly enjoy sharing a book with their peers in the flexible seating options in our classroom. Self-select reading time is a highlight of the school day.
By providing these readers with more choices, they will be able to expand their reading options, opening more pathways to learning!
Students will be able to choose from topics that they are interested year round. If a child loves insects, they will not have to wait until spring time when I teach the topic to choose a book about what they love. More options will equal more reading, and more reading equals more learning!
