My students need multiple copies of books from the Sisters Grimm series, Tales from the Five Kingdoms series, and The Phantom Tollbooth. Being able to hold and read books is the best way to enjoy them!
My students are amazing, resilient kids! Our school is located on a military base and services only active-duty families. Not only do my students face the challenges of having to move and start over every few years, but also the stress of being separated from loved ones during deployments. Many of my students have already attended several elementary schools during their early school careers. As their challenges and needs are unique, my goal is to create a safe and student-centered classroom that supports them academically, socially, and emotionally.
My Project
Copies of the Sisters Grimm series, Tales from the Five Kingdoms series, and the Phantom Tollbooth will foster a love of reading. There is nothing like reading and turning the pages of a new book and then feeling a sense of accomplishment when you've read the last page.
Giving students books that ignite their imagination and spirit is how we, as teachers, nurture literate children!
My students love when I read aloud to them. Last year, I began the Sisters Grimm series, which they absolutely loved. This year I would like to introduce this series (and others) to a new group of students. With multiple copies, students will not only be able to read these books independently but also form literature groups to share their thoughts and ideas with one another.
