This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty area, I see my students coming into my classroom everyday dealing with issues that most of us as adults, have never had to deal with. Most of my students came to me working below grade level. Everyday I strive to do the best for my students and create a safe, exciting learning environment.
Having the necessary materials for my students is an important step in helping them to succeed and reach their goals.
My Project
Many of my students do not have access to quality literature. Even many of the books in our classroom are "well loved" and just hanging on. It's hard for students to get excited about reading something when they only have old boring books to pick from.
I want to bring in good quality literature for my students to get excited about.
These book sets with our favorite characters like Henry and Mudge, Mr. Putter and Tabby, George and Martha, and Biscuit and from authors like Arnold Lobel will help build our classroom library and give us quality books to read during guided reading. Please help my students build our classroom library and catch the reading bug!
