My students come from various economic and social backgrounds. They are very energetic and have many different learning styles. It is very important to me to do everything that I can to reach every student. Our school is a Title I School, and many students have very little support at home. I work hard to make the most of their time with me. I have very high expectations for my students. Many of them begin the school year behind. It is my goal to have all students reading and performing at grade level or beyond by the end of the school year.
This is accomplished by having high expectations, encouraging students to be the best, and providing them with authentic learning opportunities that will keep them interested and motivated to learn.
My Project
My students need high-interest realistic fiction books to analyze, and increase their stamina and love for reading. We are using the Lucy Calkins reading units to deepen our understanding of reading and analyzing. We have been focusing on themes and character development.
Through these wonderful units of study, students have developed stamina and a genuine love for reading.
Studies show that a student's reading increases the more they read. I would love to be able to provide my students with a wide variety of books to choose from to make them not only better readers, but to help develop that love for reading from here on out!
