Every day my students and I start class by reading for 30 minutes. Although all my students read several grades below their actual grade level, they rise to the challenge to meet their Accelerated Reader goals.
I teach students with learning and health disabilities in 5th through 8th grades.
All of my students have individual needs, and I do my best to help them become more successful. Our school places an emphasis on silent independent reading by requiring all students to read 30 minutes daily in their English Language Arts classes. Many of my students are discovering a love for reading because I have introduced them to books that interest them on their levels.
My Project
It is very difficult for my students to read daily without books that are on their levels. Building a bigger classroom library will allow them to continue to work on their reading skills and confidence. It will offer them more choices to meet each student's needs.
My students will be able to go on adventures with the characters they read about and discover new things.
This will help me foster a love for reading, as well as, a positive attitude for being life-long learners.
