My students are scholars, learners, writers, readers, and mathematicians. They speak English, Arabic, Spanish, Lao, Tibetan, Vietnamese and Tagalog and each brings their unique backgrounds to our classroom.
My students are shooting for the stars this year as they explore their inherent capabilities as learners, friends, and members of a classroom community that values kindness, diversity, and respect.
Stege Elementary is a Title I school, which means that more than half of the families it serves come from low-income households. Twenty-five percent of students are English Language Learners, ninety-three percent are from low-income households, and one-hundred percent receive free or reduced lunch.
My Project
I have chosen the Lakeshore book bins as a central organizing feature of my 2018-2019 classroom. These book bins will ensure that my students always have access to books at their reading level. I have also selected several books like "What Do You With an Idea" to continue my focus on social-emotional learning. This is especially important for four-year-olds just beginning the school year.
The books, book bins, and organizational materials will serve as the cornerstone to my classroom this coming school year.
I have requested bulletin board borders, as well as a moving cart, dry erase markers, and plastic bins to ensure that my 2018-2019 classroom has the organization my current classroom has been lacking. Currently, I have no place to put all of the materials I need for morning meeting and a moving cart would fulfill this need. I also do not receive basic materials like dry erase markers, play-doh, glue sticks and classroom decorations from my school. I cannot afford to continually buy these materials myself, but would still like my classroom environment to be cheerful and student friendly.I will use the 70-quart and 12-quart containers to organize my books and store my lessons. At the moment, I have no place to store any of the materials in my classroom and many things are in piles in my back closet. This has caused me a lot of stress and does not lend itself to a safe classroom environment for my students.
Each of these items would contribute to a productive, warm, and welcoming environment in my 2018-2019 classroom.
