In my unique position, I get the great opportunity to work with children, preparing them for school. Our program serves kids prenatal to kindergarten entry of all socioeconomic backgrounds.
Our town is a smaller town in Southwest Missouri that is full of kids who are outgoing and amazing.
Our community considers us a very good school for their kids. The kids in our community come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, ranging from high-middle class to poverty.
Kids in today's society need to have as many hands-on, meaningful opportunities to work with all aspects of learning. It is vital to children that they are allowed to handle, comprehend, think about, feel, and work through concepts.
My Project
We know that a love for reading and learning has to be fostered in babies. We know how good reading is for kids. Kids not only need to read, but a love for reading starts with parents reading books to kids. Kids need to have books in their hands to touch, feel, and turn pages.
In Parents As Teachers we want to send books home with our kids each month when we have our visits.
These wonderful board books will be given to our kids and families each visit for them to take home and enjoy! This gives kids the opportunity to read and be read to before they even come to school.
