This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My 2nd graders attend school in a small, rural community. They love school and learning, especially reading. My students' excitement for learning shows on their faces every day.
The majority of my second graders live in high poverty situations.
School is their "happy place," where they know they will not only be encouraged and loved, but also challenged.
My students are very responsible, and we have a wonderful classroom community. My students are always willing to help one another and work as a team.
My Project
The majority of my students come from high-poverty homes. When they are at school, reading is their "happy place," where their imaginations can take them anywhere they want to go.
In order to become successful readers, my students need a variety of books to give them selection and help them learn reading strategies.
I teach my students many strategies to help them become strong, independent readers. This is something that they will keep with them the rest of their lives.
My students enjoy many types of genres, so having a wide variety of books allows my students to have many text choices.
