In my first grade class room, my students love reading and hearing new stories. Each day they come in and read for the first ten minutes of class, either independently or with friends. I incorporate reading into our schedule as much as possible. I usually teach a mini lesson daily with a different book. I read aloud after lunch from a chapter book and a student is selected daily to share their favorite book at the end of the day. I love to share the gift of reading with all my students. Unfortunately many of them do not have books at home. I allow them to check books out from our class library each day and two books on the weekend. With their growing love for reading, I am sad to say that I am unable to supply many of their demands. Many of our class books are outdated, leaving the most popular ones in high demand. Sadly, with only one copy of each book, the books have begun to wear and become torn. I purchase books as much as I can, and am a member of nearly every discount bookstore there is. Yet, this is not enough. For the learning and enjoyment of my students, I am asking for more books for our class library and our lending library. Every book is an adventure, and I plan to take my students around the world. Whatever can be given is more than we have. Thanking You in Advance, Your Friends in First Grade, Room 102
