My students need inspiring books that encourage positive behavior and perseverance.

Our class is filled with 22 enthusiastic second grade students. My students are eager to learn about the world around them while making connections within the community. My students are intelligent, kind, comical children who deserve a quality, comprehensive learning environment.
Our class is located in a high-poverty, Title I School in eastern North Carolina.
In our classroom you will find us plunging into exciting literature-based activities. We come from different backgrounds and we embrace diversity, but in our classroom we are one family.
Books play a significant role in a child's life. Through literature, I am able to take my students on adventures to far away lands and teach lessons beyond the scope of the curriculum.
Teaching character education through literature can increase academic performance, improve attendance, and encourage compassion among students.
The books I've selected will improve student's problem solving skills and self-confidence by exemplifying good charcater traits. It is my priority to establish a classroom environment where every learner feels safe and valued within our four walls. My goal is to use stories like, Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon, to teach students to persevere and conquer obstacles with grace and unwavering drive.
