"Excuses are tools of incompetence. They build monuments of nothingness, and those who specialize in their uses seldom accomplish anything." -Author Unknown
This is a quote my students learn the first week of school each year.
It's our mantra and a reminder that we can do anything if we truly put our minds to it. Most importantly, it inspires us to shy away from excuses and focus on solutions.
I work in an inner-city school with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch. Despite those challenges, my students are excited to work on the many engaging projects I design throughout the school year. This year will not be any different.
My Project
My 4th grade classroom needs updated novels to instill the love of reading while I teach them the literacy skills necessary to become career readers and writers. Students spend a vast majority of time reading what I select, but these novels will foster a sense of independence through choice. Students will be able to select a wide variety of titles available with your donation.
Kicking up your feet and losing yourself in a good book is a dying trend.
We scroll our phones and spend time reading 140 characters or less. I hope that with these great novels I've selected, I will send my students on a literary trip through a new favorite book.
