My students need these books. So far, I have read 5 forensics books this year in preparation of the class, and this one is the best for the goals I wish to help my students achieve.
My students show up to class every day with an open mind towards the topics they have chosen. They want to learn. My students also have an eagerness about them. The more knowledge I feed them, the more their hunger and curiosity grow. With budget cutbacks, the material needed for projects to fill these hungry minds getting harder and harder to come by. I feel as if I leave minds starving on many days. The juniors and seniors that walk in my room on a daily basis live in a community that is becoming more and more financially distressed. The high school numbers of students that are applying for economically disadvantaged status are approaching 60%. Without grants and donations, science classrooms would not be the hands-on activity driven environment they should be. That’s why I can’t thank DonorsChoose.org enough for all the help they provide.
My Project
Since I started teaching at HHS, I have been instrumental in offering electives such as Astronomy, Botany, Environmental Science, Weather, Anatomy, Physiology, Earth’s Evolution, and next year Forensics and Oceanography. The goal is to spark students' interest in science with courses they have expressed interest in. Funds have become harder and harder to access and this means that the two new electives have no materials. These students will use this text along with guest speakers in the field to better comprehend what real-world forensics is like compared to what they see on television and in the movies.
I hope that this class, along with these books, will inspire a few students to take a leap in pursuing a career in one of the sciences taught.
