My students come to school everyday excited to learn but struggle in the classroom because they are below grade level. They do not have the proper resources or technology to succeed. I teach in Philadelphia in a middle school/ high school. Our classes serve students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.
We currently do not have any books that are engaging on their instructional level.
I teach students in an Intense Learning Support environment and focus on the skills they are lacking. To build their reading skills it is important that they are exposed to books that they are confident in reading. Please help my students because they deserve to have a classroom library where they have a variety of books they can read.
My Project
My students currently only read books that I print with copy paper. We do not have any books on their level for our library. My students love their paper books and treat them just like the real thing. We have a comfy area already set up for independent reading. We have rugs, a bench, and comfy chairs. All we are missing are the books!
With these new books, my students will have a variety of books to choose from on their independent level.
Every child deserves an exciting book to read. I can not wait to see how excited they will be when they open their new box of books. I know they will treat each book with love and care.
