This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher of students in a high poverty area, I want my students to have the same opportunities and materials as those in suburban schools. Regardless of where you live, education should be equal.
My children face many obstacles in their everyday lives, so enjoying school should not be one of them. Even with these challenges, they come to school ready to learn and do their best to stay focused. One thing they look forward to every day is reading their independent books. I want them to have the chance to read the best and most exciting books out there.
My Project
Imagine coming into a classroom everyday surrounded by books! These books can change the lives of my students. Having new and engaging books will inspire them to read and once they start reading, the sky is the limit.
"Books Are Food for Your Brain" and we are hungry! Research proves practice is the key and children need as much opportunity and exposure to books as possible in order to get that practice. Providing them new books can help support the practice that all readers need. Additionally, students feel special when they are surrounded by things they can take pride in. I want my students to feel they deserve new materials. They are worth it!
