My average day in the classroom begins when I welcome my eighth-grade students, including regular students, special education students, and students with emotional needs. I want my students to succeed.
My students like to participate in the school drama club, which is why I sponsor this activity.
I teach in a large, diverse, K-8 high poverty school in an urban area of Philadelphia that experiences crime. Our school receives Title I funding, and the entire school is eligible for free breakfast and lunch. The students come to school eager to learn from various living situations such as single parents, foster homes, homeless shelters, or extended family living.
My students are the most eccentric, funny, and smart kids you would ever want to meet. Our skill levels and overall level of support vary by student. Some of my students require additional academic support, and some require additional emotional support. One thing that is universal is our desire to work together.
On the first day of school, we identify ourselves as a family. A family takes care of one another and looks out for one another. This is what we do. We work together to accomplish our goals.
My Project
Our classroom has been operating very smoothly for the past few months. The supplies and books that are requested in this project will keep us working towards our goals that we set for ourselves back in September.
Books are a fundamental part of our classroom environment, my students love to read.
At the same time, classroom supplies are also a fundamental part of our day. Supplies such as markers, paper and crafts often run low by this point of the school year.
The supplies in this project will keep our classroom functioning as we embark on a new calendar year. More importantly, the books will keep my students reading and thinking about important social topics and events.
