My students need books on CDs, tapes and a CD/tape player so they can listen to reading while following along in the book. This will help build vocabulary and reading fluency.
I teach all-day kindergarten to twenty-six bright five and six year olds who are eager to begin reading. They vary in economic, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, but all have one thing in common which is their enthusiasm to learn.
These students are hard workers and are busy all day long.
Whether it's participating in learning centers, reading groups, direct instruction, or cooperative groups, they are learning skills and forming ideas from morning until afternoon.
My students love to learn through hands-on experiences. I like providing manipulatives, books, visuals and audios to enhance their learning.
My Project
Books on CD will help students build stronger vocabularies and work attacking skills. Following along in the book while listening to the words being read will help increase their reading fluency. These skills are essential to becoming strong readers.
Children who learn to read fluently will become students who grasp information from books, magazines, websites, and all forms of writing.
I enjoy giving children a strong foundation in reading and watching them transform over the course of a year in kindergarten. The look of accomplishment in a child's eyes when they can decode words and read sentences is so rewarding.
