My Project
The school is located in the inner city. It is a low-income area where over 95% of the students are on free or reduced-price lunches. Purchasing books is not always possible for families, and because of this, students are not always able to read and practice their reading at-home. Third grade is an essential year, where students are developing their reading skills, and as such, it is extremely important that they have daily access to books. Having a classroom library allows students to always have books within their reach.
The resources will be utilized during independent work, small-group instruction, class time, and at-home.
Students are able to check books out of our classroom library on a weekly basis. The books that students check-out are also read during the day, if students complete their work early. I want to ensure that students have a large supply of engaging books to check out. Daily practice and engagement is the key to students' literacy success.
