I am the lucky teacher of 25 amazing third graders. My students are from a low-income/high poverty school with 100% free lunch.
We are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom, even before the Camp Fire.
My students work hard everyday! They come to school eager to learn and build their knowledge. However, many of them come from difficult home lives. Just getting to school can be a challenge for some of them. But we persevere!
My Project
The books and book bins will provide a way for my students to build a love of reading and work on reading an entire series. As a third grade teacher I am working on getting students to read chapter books. These books will spark their interest and keep them engaged.
Creating a love of learning and reading is one of my top priorities as a teacher!
It is hard to create that love of learning but it’s essential before my students move in to the intermediate grades. I want to send them on with confidence and love of reading. My students face so many struggles on a daily bases and these books will provide a way for them to escape their worries and stresses of daily life.
