Help me give my students high interest books to escape into, like the Harry Potter series. We also need some help organizing our writing with writing folders and a globe that doesn't have the USSR! Thanks!
My rural school is full of a diverse student population. Our students are full of joy and can't wait to learn every day. They get so excited by new experiences and exciting adventures. They love researching topics and playing games to enrich their learning. Every day I am inspired by their enthusiasm. In my classroom we work to collaborate every chance that we get. It is amazing how much students can teach each other and learn together if they are given the chance.
The school is very small, but it is full of a wonderful students that are excited to learn every single day.
We live on the coast, so we are able to really enrich our students learning about marine life. We are so incredibly fortunate in that aspect. On the other hand, we do not have a lot of access to technology and materials due to our lack of funding. We do our best to give our students the 21st century education that they deserve.
My Project
Recently, my students have had a hard time truly loving reading, so you are going to help! We need some high interest books that really grab the students. Graphic novels, like Dogman and Babysitters Club, are very popular right now and are a gateway into the love of reading. Student really are loving to read the Harry Potter series, but we only have the first two in the classroom and they are well loved (already falling apart). We will revamp those and get the rest of the series with your help. The choose your own adventure books will help those students truly connect with their books.
Loving reading is the first step to becoming a life long learner.
These students are going out into a hugely competitive world soon and they need to have the greatest chance to reach their highest potential. I believe they can with new novels and reading incentives, like the mini erasers and the other prizes for their hard work. I hope that they soon realized that reading is a wonderful journey that can help expand their minds and grow their hearts.
The basics that we need this year are a few, but they are very much needed. Our globe at the moment still has the USSR on it...yikes! So we need an up-to-date globe for learning about our world. We also need a new clock to help students practice telling time. The school only has a digital one, that will be covered up as soon as we get this new one. They will be forced to practice this practical skill. We also need writing folders to help guide our writing process. With the CCSS standards being as rigorous as they are, we really need to stay organized and focused, especially in writing.
