My Students

Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? My students have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations, but they have also not yet met so many fantastic authors such as, Cleary, Riordan, Adler and many more...

Classroom size 32 students.

Our school is made up of 51% poor, minority students from the inner city: Sunset Park, Brooklyn, NY. We are a diverse group of children who mostly qualify for free lunch. We are a financially strapped district. We are in great need of books and supplies.

My Project

The heart of every classroom is a full, rich and diverse library. If students have this specific library they are able to develop some of their own writer's and reader's craft. What better way to learn reading and writing skills by taking a journey through countless books across many different genres: mysteries, fantasy, science/historical fiction, biographies, poetry and so much more.

This project is very important to us because our school struggles financially and with that there is a lack of quality books that children need.

Writing and reading can be difficult to teach without the right supplies. Mentor texts helps make such an impact on learning reading and writing strategies. Please help us out and thank you so much.
