This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are growing up in a high-risk area, where most people count them out before they even get started. They live in a neighborhood that is primarily in section 8 housing.
My students have persevered through obstacles such as trauma each and everyday, but show great resilience as they show up to school every single day to learn exciting new things in my classroom.
We are a Title I school and all of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most students come to school without having any school supplies from home. It is my hope to update our classroom, by providing resources my students do not currently have access to. No donation is too small to make an impact on my students.
My Project
This year I went from teaching all academic core concepts to only teaching Math and Social Studies to 40 third grade students. My classroom library is no longer appropriate for my students, and needs to be upgraded.
By adding to our classroom library, students will have a greater selection of books that focus on math concepts.
Students will be able to have a variety of books about math at their grade level if this project is funded. This opens them up to seeing how mathematics can be incorporate into everyday life. So, please help my students begin to really enjoy reading about math!
