This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This is my 13th year teaching at the best "little school in the hood that could," as my principal says. We are a low-income and high-minority school. Even though my students may not always have a lot, they do not let that stop them from learning. They always come into my classroom eager and excited to learn.
They are constantly giving me hugs and writing me notes to tell me how much they love school.
I never want this joy and excitement for education to stop. That's why I need to keep finding new ways to keep them motivated and on task. They have so much energy and enthusiasm. I just want to see it channeled in the right way.
My Project
I teach second grade at a Title I school. I am always looking for ways to get my students excited about reading.
I want my students to know that even though they are young, they are leaders and can change the world.
They just have to put their minds to it.
I want to give all of our second graders the book "Kids Who Are Changing the World" for Christmas. I want to inspire them to be leaders instead of followers and understand that their circumstances don't define them. I want them to start thinking about their futures and what positive impacts they can have on the world.
