Help me give my students a classroom collection of books that celebrate diversity in dance. I want my students to see characters in books who look like them excelling in the fine and performing arts.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a Title I Arts school with nearly 1,000 students in grades K-5. More than 70% of our student population lives at or below the poverty line. Our school provides breakfast and lunch for all students. We are a Lighthouse School that follows the 7 Habits of the Covey Leader in Me student leadership program.
The dance education program at our school is a very unique opportunity for students to study dance within the school day.
Curricular programming includes dance education, music education, drama education and art education. We also offer after school enrichment programming in the arts providing students with the opportunity to participate in chorus, dance team, drama club, and art club . This year we produced our first production of the "Nutcracker" with 100+ students in dance and drama performing. We plan to make this an annual event.
My Project
I would like to build a classroom set of books representing culturally diverse dancers and performers so that my students see characters who look like them excelling in the fine and performing arts. My goal is to add books that represent different cultural dances from around the world as well as books about differing styles of dance.
In particular, I would like to add books about Misty Copeland, the first African American principal dancer with the New York City Ballet.
Her story is one that my students will be able to relate to and draw inspiration from as they continue their dance education.
