My students need books that we can read as a group, in partners, and independently. They also need individual dry erase boards to use during phonics skills practice.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hard-working, fun loving, and eager to learn! They love hands-on activities and projects that help them to visualize the concepts we are learning. Reading is an area my students struggle with, but it does not bring them down! When reading stories together in small group, they enjoy connecting with the stories and providing anecdotes. On a lesson that depicted different cultures and their customs, a student was so impacted that he went home and told his mom all about it. The following day, he came to group with a book he had that had images and captions about the culture we were studying. He brought it to school so that he could share it with his peers. This is why I love what I do!
My Project
Encouraging my students to read can be hard when there aren’t enough high-interest books on the bookshelf. Having these books will provide my students with opportunities to fall in love with reading! These books will be used for guided reading in small group, partner reading, and independent reading. They will work on skills to strengthen reading fluency and accuracy and comprehension. My students love to connect with the stories they read and having a wider variety of books to read from will enrich their reading experience. It is my hope that my students will be life-long readers who enjoy reading for both pleasure and learning!
