My Students

The thrill of fiction, imagining infinite possibilities and connecting to characters as if they were your friends. Some students in my schools don't have access to books or libraries. They spend all summer on the TV or computer. A book can open up endless possibilities. Please give a gift of hope.

Students in my school are 90% Hispanic,Title I, and English Language Learners.

Families enroll their students at our school because it is a fundamental school and they want their child to have many opportunities to succeed. Partnering with teachers, parents and the community, our school pulls together to support and encouraging life long learners.

My Project

Our classroom library needs to be stocked with high interest books so that students have the opportunity to read and fall in love with reading. Books at the library are out of date and limited. Creating a classroom library will give my students access to a whole new world of books and characters. Their reading and lives will be improved.

This project is important to me because as a life-long lover of books, I know that this generation faces so many obstacles.

Media has enticed them to turn on the TV, gaming device, or computer and forget classic books. Being able to read for pleasure helps students hone skills they need in high school and college- starting at the elementary level, they will learn the value of a book- we just need to get the book in their hands and motivate them.
