Help me give my students prizes and incentives for our reading programs throughout the school year. Snacks, stickers, erasers, and bookmarks make great incentives/prizes for our middle school students who like to read but also like rewards!
Sixty-two percent of the students in our school receive free/reduced-price lunch and other government assistance to meet their basic needs. That number continues to climb each year. However, the challenges these students face on a daily basis do not limit their determination to learn.
Our library is quickly becoming a hub of activity in our school.
We have gone from just having a few visitors before and after school to our library being filled with students reading, studying, as well as creating and collaborating in our library's Makerspace.
My Project
We are a middle school serving 6th-8th grades. During the pandemic, students spent a lot of time on devices and set books and reading aside. We want to reignite their love of reading with reading incentive programs throughout the school year.
While we recognize that reading itself is a reward, we want to offer our middle school students food and fun incentives when they read and encourage them to get out of their reading comfort zone.
We want to encourage them with cookies, candy, stickers, bookmarks and other prizes for setting and reaching goals for reading and completion of reading incentive programs.
Funding this project will help provide these incentives so we can use the limited funds in our current budget to provide more books for students to read.
