Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school emphasizes the respect of self and others. This encompasses discipline and high expectations as well as activism and compassion. The kids know they will be Agents of Change and follow our school motto, "Be the change you want to see in the world." - Mahatma Ghandi
We are classified as a "highest poverty" school and the kids at our school are brilliant.
They deserve excellent educational resources. Although my kids may lack financial resources, they have an incredible work ethic and desire to learn. We are a full Title I school, a vast majority of our students qualify for free or reduced lunches.
Our students may lack the material privileges that other American children are fortunate to have, but they certainly make up for it with talent, fortitude, and sheer intelligence. We live in a world where our youth are simply not provided with enough quality resources to shine; your donation will make the dream of a bright future come true.
My Project
Our classroom has an awesome library filled with amazing picture books and leveled readers. However, our bookshelves are old, broken, cracked, and unsafe. I have been teaching in the same room for 17 years and I inherited it from the previous teacher who in turn inherited from another teacher. We need new bookcases to spruce up our classroom library and replace our old and broken bookshelves! Last summer, we had new flooring installed in our classrooms. Each and every year our bookcases are moved our of your classroom to clean our room. All the moving of our classroom furniture caused more damage to our already old and rickety bookshelves. The shelves are splitting, peeling, and breaking. If not handled, ever so carefully, some of the shelves fall down. New bookcases will safely hold our leveled readers and books by subject. They will replace our broken and unsafe classroom bookshelves.
We need new bookshelves that are safe for little hands to explore and touch without any hazards and mishaps (or splinters!).
I believe creating lifelong readers is an important part of education. I want to instill a passion for reading, exploring, and expressing yourself in my classroom. An inviting library will help students gain an interest in a variety of genres and explore new books!
