Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? Many of my students are experiencing this feeling for the first time as they develop a passion for reading books, but we need more books that are about topics they are interested in!
My students are energetic sixth graders from a suburb of Indianapolis.
By challenging my students to read 40 books throughout the year and by allowing them to read books that they are interested in, my students are developing a passion for reading! Many of them are reading and ENJOYING books for the first time! It's such a magical feeling! My students love mystery and fantasy books! The scarier the better! I love watching them read a book they love and then share it with their classmates.
My Project
I would LOVE for my students to have access to more books that meet their interests. With these books, I'm sure my students' passion for reading with grow even more as they are immersed in books they cannot put down! Reading can take you anywhere, and it is my goal to expose my students to as much of the world as possible. Many of my students haven't been able to travel or be exposed to other places and people, but they can have these experiences and grow by reading books that expose them to new ideas, people, and places.
I am a new teacher and I absolutely love to read.
I hope to instill this passion in my students, but I need more books for my classroom library. Receiving these books would help not only my class this year, but for many classes in the future, too! Reading can take you anywhere and I hope my students develop a lifelong love for reading.
