Help me give my students new books, such as Wonder and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, as well as contact paper (to keep our new books looking sharp).
This year I am teaching fifth grade at a Title I school. On a daily basis, I teach two classes of students, which total sixty-five amazing fifth graders.
My fifth graders approach learning with determination and heart.
They want to be in school and rise to every challenge presented to them.
Our school serves a wide range of students who come from varying backgrounds. Many of our students come from low-income families. Additionally, our school is located near a military base and experiences high turnover throughout the year.
My Project
Do you remember the feel of a new book in your hand? The way that the pages were crisp? Does the smell of lignin take you back to your favorite childhood story? My students would love to make those memories. Our classroom library is well loved. With sixty-five students rotating through our room each day, library books are read and re-read while waiting for a book to be returned. Our class would like some new books to add to the shelves.
My fifth grade students are ravenous readers.
At any given point, between sixty-five and one hundred thirty books are checked out of our class library as students take themselves on reading adventures. The addition of new reading material will give all students access to new stories, including non-fiction texts, to help them meet their reading goals.
