My students need 48 new chapter books for our class library! We only have a few novels in class and limited access to the library. Help us build a collection of great books!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Can you imagine growing up in a home without books? For many of my students, this is their reality. I am requesting chapter books so that my kids have constant access to amazing stories. Please help me build a library to bring the magic of reading to my classroom and my kids one book at a time!
My school is full of amazing students--they are smart, creative, fun and have unlimited potential.
However, they have many obstacles standing in their way. Over 90% of students at my school receive free or reduced priced lunch and over 90% are minority students. By the time they reach me in 4th grade, they are aware of the challenges they face and sometimes feel discouraged. I want my students to know that anything is possible for them. Reading will help my students dream big and inspire them to overcome these obstacles in order to fulfill their potentials.
My Project
I am requesting chapter books in order to build our classroom library. Right now, the bookshelf in our room has fewer than twenty chapter books--which isn't enough to give one to each child. With these new books in our class, my students will have engaging, challenging, and fun stories waiting to be read every day. These books are purely for pleasure reading and my kids will be able to keep them in their desks and even take them home to read to their siblings! The books I have chosen are a mix of classics and new favorites, which will excite my kids and hopefully help them develop a life-long love of reading. I have also chosen novels that are culturally relevant, which will expose my students to positive characters they can relate to during an age when they're truly starting to explore their ethnicity. My students are future veterinarians, teachers, authors, dentists, and artists--please help provide them with the books they need to explore the world and dream big!
My goal is to change my kids' lives through reading.
Armed with this skill, my students will be able to function in the real world, develop their creativity and imagination, and explore new material. Reading is truly the key to success. By helping my students receive these books, you will expose my them to people, places and situations they might not otherwise see. This will help them set life goals and achieve their big dreams!
