Book Trailers, Digital Stories, Classroom Films, Oh My!
My students need camcorders to better support the technology components of our Common Core Standards to create book trailers and digital stories to enhance comprehension.
What if your end of novel project option sheet included a book trailer project as an option? You would be required to film scenes relevant to your theme and add special effects and music. That sounds like so much fun! But wait, you can't. You don't have a camcorder and neither does your teacher.
My students are lively middle school individuals that love getting involved with anything hands on or technology based.
Our school is a close knit community of hardworking and supportive parents and students that entrust us with one of the most important jobs in a child's life-education.
My Project
With the use of camcorders in the classroom my students will be able to create interactive book trailers to advertise their novels. They could use the cameras to create a commercial during our persuasive unit or a documentary during our Nonfiction unit. Camcorders are great because they take normal, in-depth tasks and allow the students to fully engage in the project to create more meaning for them, leading to more concept retention.
Technology has become and every day tool so why not update our classrooms with exciting ways to teach our students important life skills with seemingly basic technology?
If students have an alternative and hands on way to become active participants in their education then their retention level rises and their enthusiasm for the subject increases. Allowing students to complete creative, yet challenging projects through the use of camcorders gets students actively involved in their content.
